Wapda beat POF in Volleyball Championship
Sialkot—On the opening day of 46th National Volleyball Championship 2010 Wapda beat POF by 25-16, 25-15 and 25-19 match played on Saturday night at Talab Maula Bukhsh.

In other two matches the PAF beat AJK by 25-11, 25-12 and 25-18 while Navy thrashed Pakistan Boards 25-14, 25-13 and 25-15.

As many as 13 teams throughout the country were participating in the championship. The Railway, Punjab, POF, Police, Pak Boards, Navy, PAF, KPK, FATA, Army, Sindh and the AJK are competing the event.

Earlier, MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif formally inaugurated the 46th National Volleyball Championship.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Sialkot was playing instrumental role in manufacturing quality sports but the city had also produced renowned cricket, hockey and volleyball players of international standard.

Expressing the hope he said participating teams would give their excellent performance in the game and the people of Sialkot would enjoy the game. The MNA on this occasion stressed upon the business community of Sialkot that they should sponsor teams for the promotion of volleyball game throughout the county.

Wapda Vs Sindh, Police Vs FATA, PAF Vs Pak Boards, Navy Vs AJK and Army Vs Railway will play their match on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, President Punjab Volleyball Association Zafar Abbas Luk said a strategy has been formulated for the promotion and development of volleyball in the Province.

Talking to APP, he said under the programme special attention would be accorded on hunting the talent for fulfilling the future requirements and infusing fresh blood in the game of volleyball.

At present the volleyball game was on down trend and it needs special attention for the development of smashing game in the country, he said.

Zafar Abbas disclosed special centres had been set up at Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad and Sahiwal areas for grooming and training of younger players because at this juncture we direly needed talented players. —APP
