Bomb Blast in Bangalore IPL Match
A bomb blast in Bangalore is said to have taken place at the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Two bomb blasts went off in Bangalore just before an IPL cricket match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Moments before the start of an IPL cricket match between Mumbai and Bangalore, 2 low-intensity blasts went off just outside the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore. Early reports seem to suggest crude bombs went off outside gate number 12. Around 8 people have been injured, most of them security personnel and policemen. One security guard is said to have been seriously injured. There were 40,000 people in the stadium ready to witness the crucial match. An outer wall of the stadium has been damaged in the blast. An extensive search operation is being carried out outside the stadium, and this has resulted in huge traffic jams.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said that it is too early to confirm the nature of the blasts, but indications point towards crude bombs. It seems that explosive material had been placed in a plastic bag between a poster and the wall, which went off. Bangalore police commissioner said, "The explosion occurred near the wall at the gate No. 12 of the Chinnaswamy stadium. There is no cause for panic, though."
This is the first instance of the Indian Premier League (IPL) being actually targeted. The toss, which was to have taken place at 3:30 pm has been delayed, and the players have been sent back into the dressing rooms. The match was scheduled to start at 4:00 pm. Security is very tight in and around the stadium, and a match official said that the game would be played today itself
